National Storytelling Week

by roundabout

Storytelling in dramatherapy enables our clients of all ages to express, explore and communicate conscious and unconscious ideas within the safety of a story frame or structure.

Within each story there are themes, such as friendships, team work, chaos, calm, the unlikely hero, differences, appreciating one another, keeping things hidden, difficult feelings, relationships, differences, coping strategies, loss, determination and skill…..the list goes on.

The client or dramatherapist may choose a story such as a myth or legend which mirrors how they (the client) are feeling or echoes a challenge they are facing. Alternatively the client and dramatherapist may make up their own story together. In the dramatherapy session there are costumes, props, material, puppets which can be chosen by the client to help tell their story.
